Your algorithm curator used to ring a bell.
From wooden clapper to recommendation engine — 5,000 years of the person whose job was to decide what everyone else paid attention to.

Before the feed existed, someone still had to decide what you heard.
In medieval England, that person stood at the market cross, rang a brass hand bell until the crowd gathered, and read the royal warrant aloud.
Get it wrong — even a word — and it was a criminal offence.
The lineage is longer than you'd think:
oral messenger → herald → town crier → newsboy → editor → algorithm curator.
Six roles. One job: filter the noise and amplify what matters.
The tools changed. The accountability? That part's still being worked out.
